Micro-Storytelling in Dance

This performance from last night's episode of So You Think You Can Dance is a compelling example of micro-storytelling through dance. It was choreographed by Mia Michaels, a gifted storyteller whose work takes viewers on a roller coaster of story and emotion over the course of a minute or two dance.

Although I've been watching the show for a few years, the correlation between its short narrative dance format and micro-storytelling only occurred to me last night. It is very inspiring (and a bit intimidating) to realize how much emotional depth can be conveyed in such a brief performance. Works such as this challenge us as storytellers to dig deeper into our joy and pain and be more committed to infusing each phrase and image with craftsmanship and integrity.

Wow, powerful and poignant. I studied this craft years ago. It never ceases to amaze me how powerfully this artform communicates stories, emotions, ideas. Artists-athletes-storytellers...really amazing. Thanks for sharing this.
