I'd Love to see the Clickthrough Rate for this Second Life Banner Ad

Watch What Unfolds
New Second Life Banner Ad
What a wild ad! It's not a parody. The image above is an actual Google AdSense banner. The avatars look like Telenovela characters to me. What's the message? Is it that Second Life will transport you into a multi-ethnic virtual soap opera? What demographic are they going for? I wonder how the response rate compares to their Become a Vampire and Become Your Avatar ads.

How would you advertise Second Life? If you come up with a better banner idea, please send me the link and I'll post it here.

As much as i like dressing up my avatar, i don't think playing paper dolls is the big attraction to SL. I think the ability to build things much cooler than anything you can do in Minecraft is. That's what you should be selling.

I know a lot of people who are into playing paper dolls. Fashion, house decorating, and taking pics are their thing. And they spend $$$.

I'd love to see the clickthrough numbers too!

It has a decidedly "Keeping up with the Kardashians" vibe. All that's missing is a Jenner-like creepy looking facelift and pictures of stilettos. Kind of ironic for SL to run a reality-show type ad.

I think it's likely that after all this time, they have something in place to track banner response from click to sign up to customer retention. And that they do some sort of A/B testing. So it's possible that this was just a wild ass concept they threw out for one cycle.
