The Verdict's Still Out on Whether They're Evil. But Evil Geniuses They're Not.

Last night my suspended profile was reinstated. This afternoon, I received this contradictory email from Google support. (My profile is still active at the moment.)

I love it! Your display name must be your common name, but not a nickname; so if your wallet-name is Charles but people call you "Chuck", "Chuck" can be your display name. Even though it's a nickname, so it should be in Other Names. Apparently they can't be consistent for three sentences at a time...

I put the name that I am commonly known by and my pseudonym in both those fields (they are the same name btw). At least 'I' am consistent. :)

Dale: It boggles the mind, doesn't it? It's hard to tell reality from The Onion these days.

Crap: He would make an awesome spokesperson for Google+. Can I steal your idea and make a video?

Cisop: I wish they'd just admit that they believe that virtual identity and pseudonymous relationships are bogus and stop beating around the bush.

I'm still baffled someone apparently got their profile suspended for including a period after Jr.

Ah, that's an easy one. Remember they said they were going to warn people before suspending them at some point in the future?

I believe that time is now, and you're being warned that unless you sort things to Google's satisfaction that they'll suspend you again.

Tateru: That's certainly possible, but the timing didn't make a lot of sense in that case. But since not very much related to their handling of this situation is making sense, there's no telling!

actually the sad thing is... the response was really a cut and paste from their policy... http://www.google.com/support/+/bin/answer.py?answer=1228271
