Since Whiskey Day is embracing the cliché, I thought I'd love up a few myself. Creativity is like playing a slot machine. Place a bet. Pull the lever. Watch the clichés spin. Pray to the Muse for a winning combination. Spin again.

Someone once made the argument that cliches in art make it more accessible. There's some validity to that, I think. As long as you don't rely on the the cliche, but rather use it to make your own point.
