This whole thing with G+ and identity has been pretty fascinating really. I'm still getting my head around it.

One thing that is more troubling to me than Google's ambiguous position is that so many people have been rationalizing their pseudonymity to the show-us-your-papers crowd. I tend to over-think things, but that seems like a bit of a wobbly position.

Anyway, thanks for staying on it Botgirl. I enjoy your sober logic.

Well, on the subject of our online self, VR selves, and so on, and the future, in relation to things like Google+ and Facebook, this blog post is a fascinating read:

http://cityofnidus.blogspot.com/2011/07/distributed-self.html

Note particularly in the 11th paragraph there what it says about nicks and stuff, but definitely read the whole thing, read everything up to that paragraph first.

It is pretty clear this person is really knowledgeable about the subject, has personal experience with much of it, and has done a lot of research. I do hope the decision makers at Google+ see that blog entry. Particularly because of that point he makes in paragraph 11.
