The Joy of Gonzo Scholarship

Research Stew

This photo show my latest "research" materials related to the Ventriloquism and Virtual Identity idea I've been pondering. Between these and my last few Vizthink posts, you can get a sense for the sheer joy and intellectual freedom that amateur scholarship (I can sense the real academics cringing) can foster. I invite you to join me in the playful work of questioning your own answers by going out on a limb and bringing back the juicy fruit that's hanging just out of sight.

What are we cringing over? Joy, or intellectual freedom? Honestly, you've never hit a wrong note for me, but I had hoped to read something liberating when I saw the post's title. Boo-hoo! BTW, I'm reviewing Crumb's Genesis in a couple of weeks. I'd love to know how it fits into your work on ventriloquism and virtual identity, which I love even though I am "real." Big grin!

I can see the connection with Crumb ... you're writing words to fill the mouths of all the cartoon characters, which is SL on an animated basis. I guess i can understand the ref to Heidegger, too. But I think it's just a funny juxtaposition of book covers, not something real heavy.

Crumb is an amazing film. To be honest I had never heard of the guy but since then I have been fascinated by him.
