(My interpretation is that various of A's selves and various of B's selves form a nice polyamorous family / polygon / graph / whathaveyou. But maybe that's just me. :) )
Hmm...my interpretation are all the different voices/personalities that live inside of each person's mind...so that in reality two singular people are actually in a relationship with a myriad of "people" via their partner's multi-faceted personality. That's my two coppers, anyway.
The image popped into my mind as I was noodling around, so there's no consciously directed meaning behind it. The title was a last minute addition to label the blog post.
I may not understand what is not being understood (that would not be unusual). But here is what Wikipedia has to say (there is much more).
"Polyamory (from Greek πολυ [poly, meaning many or several] and Latin amor [literally “love”]) is the desire, practice, or acceptance of having more than one loving, intimate relationship at a time with the full knowledge and consent of everyone involved. Polyamorous perspectives differ from monogamous perspectives, in that they reflect one or more partner's wish(es) to have further meaningful relationships and to accommodate these alongside their existing relationships."
I do think it has to be "two plus" to be poly. I have former colleague in California left over from "the 70s" who has subscribed to this since the days of "Open Marriage", which I think pre-ceeded the Officializing of Polyamory as a lifestyle. It is simple in theory, hehe, but may be difficult in practice for everyone but a few California subcultures. It sounds like the norm in some circles in Extropia, doesn't it? In an ideal world...
Is the concept different when applied to SL? I don't know. Does it matter whether some of the participants are in SL and some in RL? As in knowing that your partner has a virtual partner and not minding? Just providing the "academic" background. Probably no one is reading this thread any more anyhow. :-)
P.S. How come everyone leaves the nose out of the smiley face these days? Did I blank out for a few years? :-) :) I think I prefer having a nose even tho I'm a mouth breather.
elizabeth: I have another image planned to take it to the 2+ stage and illustrate the unique "parallel monogamy" practiced by some in Second Life and other virtual worlds. I've met quite a few people who have a monogamous relationship in the physical world with one person, and a second "monogamous" partnership between their avatar identity and someone in Second Life. (Not surprisingly, the RL partner usually doesn't like the arrangement if they know about it.)
I forgot to add in the last post that I'm actually Chimera Cosmos. Blogger thinks I go by "elizabeth" which no one has called me since I got out of junior high. Well, maybe my grandmothers once or twice. :-)
I think I've got it fixed so that at least my photo gives a clue to my real...that is SL...identity. That's the only place I know you, of course.

Actually, this is one I struggle with. Could I possibly be a very stupid person and ask for a caption? My brain's not turned on. ^^;
Awwwww, cute!

That's a neat idea , never thought of it beyond parallel ones. Now I've got to go give those alts some more money :/

Of course, I could totally be wrong - I haven't had my black tea yet this morning. ^_^

Aha! Ah well, I relate to Isadora's interpretation best, ad can see that working if I were one of those heads up there. :)

Hi Botgirl,

Hope you are well.
