  3. You have SL Viewer 2 marked at March 2011. ... I don't know the actual release date, but it could be as early as Feb 2010.

  5. Awesome Botgirl!!

I took your lead and made a timeline for VB/CO performance works:
    http://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/44010/Vaneeesa-Blaylock-Company/#!date=2010-05-15_13:43:24!

I thought I'd do an "InfoPorn" post showing both timelines... is there some code to embed yours?
(I just did the freebie version)

  13. Kudos on doing this - excellent summary!

  14. WindLight caused quite a fuss when it was introduced - I forget when that was, however.

  15. Copybot Revolt and store shutdowns missing. Stroker Serpentine deleted scripts missing, Woodbury incidents missing, RedZone fiasco missing, Age Verification incident missing, Adult Regions land rush and yellowing of the mainland missing. Endowment For The Arts failure to materialize, Residents Choice Awards debacle, Community Gateways. Endless issues with MONO, Various megaprim issues and random deletions of megaprims.

  16. P2P teleporting.. Compensation for those that invested heavily in Telehub property.

Community standards and zoning rules forbidding unsightly advertisements throughout the mainland ending the runs of Mr Lee's Greater Hong Kong and Lazarus Divine's Impeach Bush signs.

  17. Excellent - but sometimes it's the not so controversial things that make a difference and signal change - like LEA and the very recent closure of SL Dev.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks Dirk, I got most of those listed.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Dirk Talamasca There's always the controversy you and I were a big part of. :-P

And for that matter... Feted Inner Core?

  20. Ok...only just found this... I will add tomorrow...

  21. @Marianne McCann I understand there are photos of that controversy. LOL

  22. An excellent piece of work, botgirl...here are a couple of things which may be missing....

When I first arrived in SL, April 2007 there were protests outside SL LL offices involving some my first friends in SL concerning the Age Verification policy. This lead to people I know leaving SL.

Sales tax was imposed on all non-US citizens sometime in 2008...I think. this pushed the price of land up by 40% for some Europeans.

April 2009 the was the Dune saga where LL and its lawyers took down all Dune role playing sites.

October 2010 .. the way Search was structured was changed to favour large businesses over smaller ones.

    Other landmarks...
Feb 2009 ... flexi sculptures announced.
May 2010 .. 70 dedicated art sims announced.
    Sept 2010... Mesh hype begins...

    March 2008 ... 64,000 concurrent users...a record.

  23. BotGirl ...you rock, this is amazing! Thanks for walk down memory lane. [Should I be happy or sad I remember most of them?]

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is brilliant, Botgirl. I am preparing for SL9B with a history related build, and your timeline just says it all. Time goes on, and the horrors of the present become the nostalgia for the past. Is anything ever really that awful with the passage of time>

  25. It was kind of fun following along and seeing what had happened before I came along, and what I remember from after.

I don't know if this may count as one or not, but what about the death of Rheta Shan? May 11, 2009.

  26. A minor issue regarding the second banning of Woodbury. It was 21 April 2010 rather than 21 August 2010.

  27. Here's one maybe: Stroker Serpentine releasing SexGen full perm:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroker_Serpentine

At the time, some sex bed makers were crying as to how that would destroy their business. Not surprisingly, that didn't happen. As the world didn't end when Darien Caldwell released all his stuff full perm:
    http://forums-archive.secondlife.com/113/0e/320592/1.html

The sky doesn't fall as much as some seem to think. ;-)
